"Castle of Trazegnies"
The vineyard of Herlaimont has existed for more than 30 years; its surface is 1 ha. It is Mr François DUBOIS who, at 67 years, dreamed to plant vines on an old slag heap of coal field, after having transformed into forest this rough and uncultivated ground. It succeeded perfectly and the 3.000 vines produce beautiful bunches of grape whose vintage is refined in the shade of the cellars before opening out in the bottles for our pleasure and our astonishment.
At his death, Mr François Dubois bequeathed the property, which is managed by Sprl. Tervigne, to the “François Dubois Foundation” which allots its incomes to the restoration of the castle of Trazegnies. The labels of the wine reproduce the blazon of the famous family of Trazegnies and carry the name of the “Vineyard of the Castle of Trazegnies”. A team of voluntary continues the exploitation successfully and obtained very beautiful results with her wines at the time of various contests.
The Red wine (Pinot Noir) 2003 and the white wine (Müller-Thurgau-Chardonnay) 2003 obtained the appellation "1er Cru Cordeliers", during the tasting in april 2005 by the Walloon vine-growers "Les Cordeliers de St Vincent". The white wine (Müller-Thurgau-Chardonnay) 2004 and the Riesling were recognized controlled label of origin “ Sambre and Meuse Vintage ”.
Since 2004, The Walloon Community has been valorizing the vinegrowing industry of our regions and has been creating the AOC (COA) "Sambre and Meuse Vintage ". We have obtained the AOC for the white wine (Müller-Thurgau) 2004 and 2005 and also for the Riesling 2004 and 2005. The Red wine 2004 and 2005 was classified as " Table Wine ".

On the initiative of Mr. François Dubois, a Wine Festival was organized in 1977 and 1978 with the profit of the restoration of the Castle.
Since 1980, the committee of the Radio “TAN QUE VIVE ” with, at its head, its President, Mr. Jacques Chapelle and the committee of the “Friends of the Castle of Trazegnies”, of which Mr. R. Delcroix as President, organize, a little before the grape harvest, the second and third weekend of September, four days “doors open” to the vineyard, with the foot of the slag heap of Herlaimont, located street of Piéton at Chapelle-Lez-Herlaimont.
We invite you to visit this realization and to come to taste the wine of our soil. A small restoration will be proposed to you - in the cottage in case of bad weather.
- > to go there, you borrow a forest path which will lead you through wood. After 10 minutes of walk, you'll lead to the higher plate of the slag heap and you'll be able to admire the vineyard and its beautiful bunches of grape which matured all the summer.
